Sous un Ciel en Couleurs

Since we arrived just before noon in Germany and that check-in at the hotel wasn't before 15:00, we decided that we would eat near the station. We were first surprised to find nothing open or nowhere to eat (I'm pretty sure now that we didn't look thoroughly enough). We went around a block and saw a restaurant we knew could only be part of a chain but we were too hungry and tired to look for something else. Plus some of the chains are not too bad (hem hem, Starbucks).
I loved the mexican inspired decoration, the tones were very welcoming and soft. The staff was friendly but they weren't many. The food wasn't the best and I can even say that we won't be going back if we can avoid it.

The mushroom soup was the worst I've ever tasted. I only took a spoon but couldn't eat it.
In Germany, they have different bread and sauce too but they're both very yummy and healthy. The corn and the ribs were okay. Peter said his burritos were too. I'm glad we were hungry though.

When we moved to Gent in 2007, we received a map of all the pubs there and BabyLuv & I decided that we'd go to all of them. Unfortunately the map teared when I tried to move it to another wall and I had to throw it away.
Early November 2009, I got a new similar map but it pointed all the Gentse restaurants! This was just perfect because we adore going to the restaurant. So we decided to try every restaurant in town. What a challenge! We're on the right track already and we still go to our favorite places often but we like to try a different one now and then.

Our choice today went for a restaurant called Passion, which is situated in the middle of the centrum, with a great view over both the Sint Niklaas Cathedral and the Belfort. Perfect!
The service was very nice and pleasant, the guys were very friendly and joking around a bit. I loved the welcoming atmosphere and the lovely and warm decor.
The food was delicious: Peter chose a typical course from Ghent, the Gentse Waterzoi. He said it was very good and loved the spices in it. I chose the sole, served with French fries and some salad, suggestion of the chef. I was very surprised by how good it was! I'm not a big fan of whole fish dish: taking out the fishbone can be so annoying. But it was so easy and the texture of the fish was perfect!

I don't know why, but it seems that going to Mc Donald's only happens once a year even though it's 200 meters away. Not that I'm complaining, I always eat too fast there and then I get sick. So does Peter. He's already a pretty fast eater as it is.
Tonight we both tried something new. Peter said his 1955 burger was okay but I didn't really like mine so much, it was not as tasteful.
I ordered some Sprite even though I don't drink sodas (or any beverage with bubbles) but it helps the food going down and then Peter finishes it (I think I drink only one quarter each time).
But, bien sûr, I always take dessert! My favorite part of the dinner! This time I tried the speculaas McFlurry. Yummy! Unfortunately I had to eat it all melted because we stopped by our neighbors to talk to them.

We always go to the center to eat out and even if I love it, I wanted to get to know what was in our neighborhood. I thought there were not too many restaurants but there are! some are a little hidden, some are visible from the street. There were three that I heard of and wanted to try out.

We chose tonight to go to the closest one called A Capella. I love the name, it's so pretty.
We weren't sure at first if it was a tea-room or a café or a restaurant. We went there by foot, what a privilege! We entered and it was like entering in a time machine: there are beautiful paintings from a local artist, decoration from the 70s, wooden chairs, big windows and a lovely garden/terrace.
We chose to eat in the tiny corner next to the garden, it felt comfy at once.
The service was nice though we had to wait a bit long. We chose an entrée and a main course. Peter had smoked ham and salmon and pasta with shrimps and I had some fish pâté and gratin with its vegetables. It was pretty good but they put celery in the vegetables and I get sick when I eat any.

La technologie, c'est formidable!

Aujourd'hui j'ai conduit ma voiture chez le docteur (punaise, il est cher, ce garagiste!!) et comme je suis arrivée plus tard que prévu (punaise, elle est morte, cette voiture à l'entrée de la France!!), l'opération va certainement durer toute la journée. Mais je ne travaille pas (punaise, elle était fatiguante, cette semaine) alors j'ai toute la journée, heureusement.
Donc là, je suis en direct du café contemporain bert's qui se situe dans le grand centre commercial de Villeneuve d'Ascq. Je vous le conseille vivement parce que l'ambiance est fort sympathique et ils ont le wifi et un décor en bois foncé très joli et une terrasse dans le "couloir" et le personnel est aimable et accueillant. Par contre, côté prix, c'est peut-être un peu cher, mais on y mange bien : je viens de manger une salade poulet-pesto délicieuse. Leur compote pomme-poire est douce et leur mélange de fruits a l'air 'miam'.

Peter est venu me chercher le weekend dernier et on en a profité pour aller au restaurant à Lille, ça faisait longtemps qu'on ne l'avait pas fait et ça nous a rappelé pas mal de souvenirs...
Le resto n'était pas sensas mais bon on était ensemble, c'est le principal !
